It’s fun to create fresh resolutions and plans to meet our own mental and emotional health needs. However, sometimes we forget it is equally important to look outside ourselves and remember the organizations that educate and advocate on behalf of individuals suffering from severe mental illness.

Annashae has chosen this week to raise awareness on issues pertaining to mental health by examining the political and economic structures that permit the implementation of good mental healthcare services. Our team is excited about discovering new ways to support the National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI). Today, we would like to bring attention to it’s Illinois chapter as it battles to secure the financial stability of the state, and applaud it’s campaign to stop mental health budget cuts.

As a company that consistently staffs medical professionals in Illinois we share the pain and frustration of this NAMI chapter; the cuts interfere with bringing to Illinois high-quality mental healthcare professionals for under served, not-for-profit psychiatric hospitals and developmentally disabled facilities (not-for-profit facilities capture an invisible group of mentally ill individuals, bringing nourishment to the community at it’s most basic level).

When public policy does not reflect the well being of some of our most creative and pained members every facet of society stops growing; everyone is stifled and equally suffers; and when people are cut off from the resources that enable them to be aspiring citizens the world becomes more chaotic and less productive.
